Welsh signwriter's pop at English
A cheeky Welshman painted a London pub sign with the words: "All English are a**eholes!"
For a while, it looked like he'd got away with penning 'Twll din pob sais' on the front of The Feathers in Westminster, reports Wales on Sunday.
But he was finally rumbled during a visit by a Welsh-speaking member of the historic pub's management team, who noticed the insult in place of the Prince of Wales' motto 'Ich dien' or 'I serve'.
A spokesman for pub giant Mitchell & Butlers, which owns The Feathers, explained: "It does seem that a sign was put up there which did have an offensive comment on it without being noticed. We apologise to anyone it could have offended."
Tangent Signs, the firm contracted by Marshall & Butlers to carry signage work on its 2,000 pubs UK-wide, was not available for comment this weekend.
But one drinker at the pub said: "You don't get many people around here who speak Welsh, so fair play, it's a wonder he didn't get away with it for much longer.
"It's a bit of a laugh. I just wish I'd seen the bosses' faces when they found out they'd spent all that cash to have that written outside."
The sign was painted over last week.
