Aussie dog reunited with owner after 2,000 mile odyssey
An Australian dog was reunited with his owner Thursday after an Outback odyssey that took him more than 3,200 kilometres (1,990 miles).
Rusty the Maltese terrier was stolen while tied up outside a shop in Woy Woy on the New South Wales coast in May and was found this week wandering the streets of Darwin in the Northern Territory, Australian media reports said.
After a microchip implant identified the dog, Rusty's owner Shirley Lowry picked him up at Sydney airport on Thursday, only to discover his kidnappers' had dyed his fur orange.
"The man fetched him out in a basket and really I don't think he knew who I was," she told public radio.
"He's just so quiet. He's a different dog, he's not the same dog.
"He was white, now he's orange. They've dyed him, they've put dye on him or something.
"I just can't believe that he's here, that I've got him back."
